"Mom"

I think all mom's have heard the distressed voices of their kids hollering for them. I heard that call this morning, rather early.
As the mother of four very vocal children, I have been hearing the blood curdling screeching of "MOM" for several years now. This morning was no different. While readying myself for the office I heard the screech of "MoooM, Mommy, MoM" coming from the second floor. I rush to respond, to see what tragic thing has my "tween" so frightened and startled, to save her from whatever catastrophy has or is about to happen to her. With my heart beating quickly in my chest I climb the stairs. Now, hold on to your hat... here it comes. I reach the landing of the second floor, call out her name to find her- there she is sitting on her bedroom floor surrounded by clothes. Yes, I should have know, "Mom, I can't find that white tank top, you know, the cute one I got a few weeks ago", she says in an irritated voice while throwing shirts up in the air.
I got duped! all of this fuss over a shirt?! I should have known, this isn't my first time dealing with a "tween", I've been through it with my two older kids. But, for some reason, I fell for it. Would you call that maternal instinct? am I a sucker?
Well all I can say is that puberty can sneak up on us mom's, we want our kids to be kids as long as possible. I knew it was coming, all of the signs were there. It reared it's ugly head today, slamming it home. I am the mom of a Drama Tween!
